Lexitaire is solitaire, but every card is a letter and every move is a word.

A board of stacked letter tiles. Only the top tile of each column is in play. Tap tiles, in any order and from any columns, to spell a word in the tray. Bank it, and the tiles underneath slide up. Keep going until nothing more can be formed.

Longer words are worth far more than short ones (a word scores its letters' points multiplied by its length), so the real game is deciding when to hold out for the long word.

What's in it

  • Two modes: Classic has a fixed board and ends when no words are left. Timed regenerates tiles as you clear them, and the clock ends the game.
  • 22 playable languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Russian and Swahili, each with its own dictionary. The interface is translated into many more.
  • Challenge a friend: share your board and score as a link. They see exactly what you played and can try to beat it.
  • Community boards: play a board and see how your score compares with everyone else who has played that exact one.
  • Customizable look: a dozen-plus tile finishes (maple, marble, brushed steel, rainbow) and tabletop backgrounds.
  • Free, no account, works offline. Install it from your browser's menu, and it plays without a connection once loaded. Your saved game and top scores stay in your own browser.
  • Word Lookup tool at mintyfreshapps.com/lexitaire/word-lookup.php checks any word against the game's dictionary.

Where it came from

The tile-stacking idea goes back to a desktop game called Wordly, itself inspired by Carl Haynes' "Wordsmith" for TiVo. Lexitaire is a from-scratch rewrite as native iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps (Swift and SwiftUI). This browser version is a separate, independent port to plain HTML5 and JavaScript.

Also available

Lexitaire uses tiles reminiscent of SCRABBLE® tiles, but is otherwise different and is in no way affiliated with that game or its trademark holders.
